On Line and Distance Learning

On Line and Distance Learning are a novel approach to learning outside the traditional classroom. allowing adults with past or no academic record, to earn college credits, even entire degrees, without ever even leaving home. On line and distance learning use the Internet, video cassette and audio tape to allow learning from a distance, usually from home, or from a conveniently located off-campus sites. and it involves the earning of post-secondary credits via non-traditional means.

Distance learning also refers to on-campus classes where the professor is not physically present, but communicating with students at several sites simultaneously via television, modem, or some other electronic means; it includes seminars, workshops, and career credits for continuing education Distance learning can lead to all degree types, from the A.A. to the Ph.D., and it is an option in most majors, at hundreds of universities worldwide.

The people who need distance learning are usually adults, for whom the convenience and appeal of earning college credits on all degree levels with minimal domestic disturbance is a great attraction. Parents, caregivers, working adults, and all already employed people find SWU to be an excellent opportunity to combine studies and living with the goal to gain a superior education title.

People who prefer to study solo can do so with DL, whilst those who enjoy group learning can find WSU classes online. People who live in remote areas or where weather can be extreme, those who have disabilities that make commuting difficult and many others just for the fun of it turn to WSU distance learning program as the only practical way to earn college credits.

There is scheduling flexibility in WSU distance learning courses. Many courses start when the student is ready, not according to strict dates. Students can learn at any time of the day or night and there is no waiting for when a certain course will be offered as it happens at traditional schools. SWU students can take any course anytime, and, sometimes, even help design the course they want to take.

Our Liberal Arts, Business and Architecture degree programs are designed specifically for busy professionals who can take advantage of an unique approach to adult education that helps students balance the demands of daily life while earning a college degree. By taking classes close from home at night, or on the weekend, busy adults can find the time they need to maintain their current life and earn their degree.

The structure of courses differs depending on the major concentration area: some courses which are completely electronic, such as interactive multimedia courses, and group learning in virtual classrooms; others will combine seminars and workshops integrated to virtual learning with coursework, materials and books exchanged through the mail. Where credits can be earned from prior learning or experience, the times can be proportionately shorter. Master's and doctoral degrees can also be earned by a combination of coursework, testing and dissertation, in a combination of credits granted for past work experience.
